People Who Made It Possible:
Selected Chepachet Old Home Day Committees

The following lists of names and committee tasks for Old Home Day workers for 35 of the event's 41 years are taken from the Pascoag Herald, Woonsocket Call, and especially the Providence Journal accounts of the Chepachet Old Home Day — the last newspaper being the principal source for the information. In some years, the lists of names were long and comprehensive; in other years they were noticeably shorter and more selective. This list also provides an excellent selection of the names of many people who were active in church (and town) affairs during roughly the first half of the twentieth century. Older Chepachet natives today will remember many of the people listed below.

Free Will Baptist Church Ladies Aid Society portrait preceding picnic, taken in front of the church, around 1902, including two people later active on Old Home Day committees: Mrs. David Webster (top row, second from right, framed by window in church door), who served at least through 1918; and Mrs. Reuben Steere (front row, second from left, seated with child in front), who served, at least, on the Souvenir Committee in 1909. Many other church members in the picture probably assisted in Old Home Day activities. The couple seated together in the front row are Rev. and Mrs. Robert D. Frost. We present this list in fairly comprehensive form as a way of honoring the memory of these individuals who worked together long and vigorously year after year on the many shared tasks that made these events a success. As stated in the text above, they created a welcoming atmosphere, a wonderful meal, interesting entertainment, and the opportunity for times of good fellowship for anyone who wished to attend. The lives of thousands over the course of 41 years were touched, if only briefly, by the people listed here — and made more joyful by their efforts. Those who labored in the vineyard are not forgotten, we give thanks for their lives and accomplishments, and we pay tribute to their memory:
